MR.HENRY H. DIXON DIES SUDDENLY
Well Known And Aged Citizen Found Dead in Door Of His Home
Funeral And Burial At Gilboa Church
Was The Father Of Sixteen Children.

Mr.Henry H. Dixon, born in McDowell Co to the late Joseph Frederick Dixon and ELizabeth Matthews Dixon, died last Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock of heart failure at his home near Gilboa church, about four miles north of Rutherfordton. Mrs. Dixon had gone to the garden and left Mr. Dixon sitting in the door. Mesdames Henry Wright and J. M. Roper came in to visit Mr.and Mrs.Dixon and found him dead in the door. Funeral services and burial took place at Gilboa Methodist church Friday afternoon with Revs. M. L. Buchanan and A. P. Sorrels in charge. A large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives were present. His grave was covered with beautiful flowers. Mrs. Dixon was 78 years, 11 months and ten days old. He was twice married. First to Miss Amy Jane Poteat in 1868. To this union was born 16 children, 13 of whom survive. Mrs. Dixon died in 1918. The next year he married Sarah Jane Bradley. Mr. Dixon joined the Baptist church at Dysartsville when he was 16 years of age. He was a member of Mt.Creek church for many years and was a loyal Christian. He was a hard working, honest farmer.

He leaves 112 grandchildren and 77 great grand children. The children who survive are: Mrs. Rosa Jane Dixon, Sanders Bridges, Shelby; Charles Marion, Hugh Francis Dixon and Mrs. M. F. (Sarah) Holland, of near Ellenboro; Mrs. M. C. (Lillie Ida) Prince, Charlotte; Mrs. J. W. (Martha Ann) "Mattie" Bradley, Gastonia; Thomas E. Dixon, Shelby; JohnDixon, Charlotte; Mrs. J. H. (Ollie Hester) Foster, Tucapau, S.C.; Mrs. O. A.( Mary Gorgettie) Trammel, Woodruff, S.C.; Carson E. Dixon, Alexander Mills, N.C, ; Archie I. Dixon, Renno, S.C.; and Mr. Gilbert F. Dixon, Henrietta. His widow and one brother, Mr. Frank Dixon of Gaffney, S.C., and one sister, Mrs.Chas. Smawley of Shelby, also survive. Mr. Dixon was a good neighbor and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends and relatives.

He was predeceased by 3 daughters Infant 1881, Aero Agness Dixon 1888, Corrie Evelyn Dixon Ravan, 1927.
