Robert E. Richardson to
Martha M. Dixon

Richmond Apr. 7th 1863

Mrs Martha M. Dickson,

Dear Madam,

Your letter asking me to inform you as to the particulars of your husband 's death came only to hand.

In reply, I would say that it is impossible for one to say whether your husband was "willing to die"- So many die in the Hospital that those employed there cannot remember how each one passes from this world. For your comfort however, I will say that a Chaplain visited the Hospital regularly; I have no doubt that your husband during his sickness availed himself of his pious conversation, and I trust for your sake as well as his own, that he is now in that better land, and my prayer is, that when you are called you may be prepared to meet him, where parting shall be no more.

Yours Respectfully

Ro. E. Richardson
