Dear children,
I seat my self this rainy
morning to write you a few lines. this
leaves us only tolerable well we have
very bad colds. I hope this will reach
you and find you all well I have written
to you a time or two and get no answer.
have you lost the use of your fingers or
eye sight or what is the reason you dont
write to me. you might come to see me
now. I think I aint very fare off now. I
landid hear the 6 of december and I have
not heard nothing from none of the
children sins I mooved but you _____
Daves told me that he seen you and that
you was well. this is seven letters I
have written this week and if I dont get
no hearing from them I will quit writing.
I expect I want to hear fom them wors
than they do from me. if they did I think
they would write. we had the nicest time
Christmas. nice weather and nice
behavour. there was a rabbit hunting
Christmas day. we was at a quilting at
Haywoods. Francis Hunted untill dinner
then he come home to the stoor and that
was all the Christmas he took. I never
seen but two men all Christmas that was
drinking and thy was Jo & John
Poteet. it is as still and pecible as any
place I have lived at so fare to be a
mill and stoor and as many people about
it as there is it is the stillest. I
hardly hear a bad word. [p.1]
A pasce of Otas dress
that Idah bought in Morganton. [possibly
a fabric sample that was enclosed with
the letter] the night we got hear they
sernaided and when Sydney mooved the
night before Christmas they gave him and
us a both a sernade. when I see you I can
tell it better than I can write it. I
dont have much time to write parte of the
time I have to tend in the soor. we have
a very good custom at the stoor and mills
both we take in a great deal of butter
& eggs. your pa is grinding now. Idah
is making Otas a dress. Otas is the pet
of flippers. he is fat as a pig. Idah has
caught a beau a widower. I will tell you
his name next time I write. he did live
one time in Cleveland. last friday I was
at a quilting and choping at Henry
Poteets the Saturday after Christmas.
Henry Poteets willie come down to see us.
he is a nice boy. he told me his sister
Jancy died the tusday week before
christ[mas]. Celenia you and Frank come.
I think I will come some time before very
long. do you want to know where I live. I
live in flippers town kings Street
Poteets hotell and nothing to eat pork 7
cts, traid corn 50, peas 60, fower two 75
a hundred, dried fruit 4 cts. write son.
I must quit for this time. dinner is
redy. come and take dinner with us. I
have peas and pudding for dinner &
coffee I hope to see you all soon. write
soon come soon good by to you all. I hope
the Lord will bless you all
